I’ve begun to do some cursory research into what will likely be a part piece wrapping up the Pirates first half to be published at the all-star break. I found the following numbers interesting, so I thought I’d post them today.
| G | R | RPG | RA | RAPG | R-RA | RPG-RAPG | |
| 2009 Pirates | 80 | 353 | 4.4125 | 347 | 4.3375 | 6 | 0.075 |
| 2009 NL | 1267 | 5618 | 4.434096 | 5758 | 4.544594 | -140 | -0.1105 |
| 2009 NL avg | 79.1875 | 351.125 | 4.434096 | 359.875 | 4.544594 | -8.75 | -0.1105 |
| 0.021596 | 0.207094 | -0.1855 |
What this shows is that the 2009 Pirates, when compared to league average, are .185 runs per game ahead of league average in the 2 categroies that most directly correlate to wins and losses, run scoring and run prevention. Anyway, look for this and much more in about 2 weeks when the all-star break rolls around. Barring a trade or the Pirates making a big move, I don’t expect to post anything other than the occasional game notes and links between now and then.
